Jazz Band and Their Kind of Music

A jazz band serves up the kind of music that originated in the late 19th to early 20th century as interpretations of American and European classical music entwined with African and slave folk songs and the influences of West African culture. This is jazz whose composition and style have changed many times throughout the years with each performer’s personal interpretation and improvisation, which is also one of the greatest appeals of the genre.

They vary in the number of its members and the style of jazz that they play but it is common to find a band made up of a rhythm section and a horn section. The size of a jazz often depends on the style of jazz they play as well as the type of venues in which they play. Smaller jazz bands, also known as combos, are common in night clubs and other small venues and will be made up of three to seven musicians.  The bigger bands, on the other hand, may be found in dance halls and other larger venues.
